Conventional Technique

Atheletic men and women, fatty teens and those who have lots of hair on the body are suceptible to Pilonidal Sinus. When a particular area of the body remains sweaty, the hair in that region start entering the skin and grow inside the body. This hair bunch causes infection and pus starts coming out of small hole mostly around the tail bone or the cocyxx. The patient normally goes to the physician who prescribes antibiotics which dries out the pus for some time but within few months the pus starts coming again. The patient is then referred to the general surgeon who prescribes the conventional incision surgery or the Flap Surgery. When the doctor explains the surgery the patient gets scared due to the complications of the procedure.

Conventionly Pilonidal Sinus Surgery is being done by Plastic Surgeons or General Surgeons as Flap Surgery. This type of surgery has a very long recovery period. The patient has to lie on stomach for 20-30 days after the surgery. The patient has to come to the hospital for dressing for several days after the surgery. This type of surgery means lots of time loss, money loss and discomfort to the patient. These days when the heart surgery also doesn't require more than 3 days of bed rest, putting the patient on bed rest for 15-20 days in Pilonidal Sinus surgery is simply unacceptable.

Vatsyayann Technique
